Gagne's Nine Events

Robert Gagné developed the Nine Events of Instruction, a theoretical approach to learning in which Gagne proposes that learning occurs under certain mental conditions. Gagne believed effective learning involved nine steps that reflected the cognitive stages associated with the adult learning process.  This particular model was chosen for this instructional plan because it is similar to the format of traditional classroom instruction.  This is a way to model this particular instructional strategy for the audience to see in action. This model will also allow the instructor to utilize various online tools during the assessment and feedback stages.

Project Title: Tech Tuesday

Context: K-12 Professional Development in which /SME will be learning about various web tools and apps to use in their classroom instruction.

Audience: The target audience consists of 34 middle level educators in a one-to-one urban middle school.  Teachers’ expertise range from all subject areas including related arts and physical education.  Prior to the professional development session learners were issued a technology needs assessment to determine their ability level and overall use of instructional technology.  Data from the needs assessment revealed most teachers are only utilizing technology in a superficial way (ie. displaying information on a projector or lecture powerpoint) and they are looking for more ways to incorporate technology in their classes.  This professional development was designed to encourage and aid teachers in implementing instructional technology in a way that would address the needs and interests of their 21st century students.

The Instructional Design process that I use most often is ADDIE. If you are viewing this portfolio then you probably are already familiar witht he ADDIE process.  For me this process is one of the most efficient approaches to designing learning.  View my video below for an overview and how I use ADDIE to design engaging and effective learning experiences.
